Privacy Policy

Calen ("the App") is a macOS menu bar application that integrates with Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, and Apple Reminders to help you manage your schedule. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Data We Collect

Calen accesses the following data solely on your device:

• Google Calendar data — event titles, times, descriptions, and calendar lists, retrieved via the Google Calendar API.
• Apple Calendar / Reminders data — accessed via macOS EventKit with your explicit permission. Never transmitted off-device.
• Google account email — used only to display your logged-in account name inside the App.
• OAuth tokens — stored in your macOS Keychain (WhenUnlockedThisDeviceOnly, no iCloud sync).
• Local todos, goals, and user context — stored as local JSON/Markdown files under ~/Library/Application Support/Planit/. Integrity-signed with HMAC.

2. How We Use Your Data

• To display and manage your calendar events within the App.
• To provide AI-powered scheduling suggestions by invoking your locally installed Claude Code or Codex CLI. Calen does not operate its own AI backend.
• All Google/Apple calendar processing happens locally. We do not transmit calendar data to any server we operate.
• When you explicitly send a chat message, the current calendar context (filtered to exclude calendars flagged sensitive) is passed to your local AI CLI, which may in turn contact its configured provider under your own credentials — not Calen's.

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. Calen never operates a server that receives your data. The App communicates directly with Google Calendar API for sync, and with your locally installed Claude Code or Codex CLI for AI features.

4. Google API Services

Calen's use of Google APIs complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We only request the minimum scopes necessary:

• calendar.events — read and create calendar events.
• calendar.calendarlist.readonly — list your calendars.
• userinfo.email — identify your account.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

Calendar data is fetched on demand and not stored persistently beyond the current session cache. OAuth tokens are stored in your macOS Keychain and can be removed at any time by logging out of the App or deleting Calen from your Mac. To remove Keychain entries manually, open Keychain Access and search for "com.oy.planit".

6. Security

OAuth credentials are stored in the macOS Keychain. All network communication uses HTTPS. The App is notarized by Apple, ensuring it has not been tampered with.

7. Children's Privacy

Calen is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy occasionally. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
